Sermon Script

Brothers and sisters, today’s passage is mainly about the Revelation of God. From now, we will see together how God revealed Who He is and Who We Are.

The author of this psalm begins by dealing with the Creation, the general revelation of God. As we Christians know that God created the Universe, the whole world.

Then, what does it mean to us that God created the Universe? How does it relate to us? There are a lot of things to say regarding God’s creation, but I want to be as simple as possible. So, I hope you can follow along with me.

Brothers and Sisters, throughout His creation, God revealed Himself. There are three things I want to talk about.

First, His existence is revealed in and through the creation. From verse 1 through 2, the author proclaims, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.”

The heavens and sky do not make any sounds, but they manifest the glory of God, and show the work of God.

With His creation, God communicates to us that there is God the creator of the whole universe. From His creation, we come to have the knowledge of God.

Verse 3 states, “There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.” Everyone, on the earth, came to know that God exists. Not only in the Old Testament, but also the New Testament talks about God’s creation and His existence.

In his letter to Romans, Paul says, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse.”

No one can deny the existence of God. No one can say that God does not exist.

Second, His Perfection is revealed in and through the Creation. Then, how is his perfection shown in the creation?

I love to see and study the Universe because there is no error in space. I used to watch documentaries regarding the universe and solar system on YouTube a few months ago. Throughout watching and studying the universe, I came to know that God does not make mistakes.

His creation reminds us of His perfection.

The distance between the sun and the earth is perfect for life. The force of earth’s gravity is perfect. The moonlight is perfect for animals acting and hunting during the night.

In the passage, the author vividly describes the Sun (S,U,N). He says that the sun runs its course, it rises from the end of the heavens and moves to the end of them.

Every day, every hour, and every second, the sun comes in the same way and goes the same way. The path of the sun is always the same.

God created the Universe without any mistakes. The universe is always being maintained perfectly by God who is perfect.

Third, His sovereignty is revealed in and through the Creation. The end of verse 4 states, “In them he has set a tent for the sun.”

The reason why the author chose the sun is because it is the core of our solar system. The Sun is the center of the solar system. The Sun dominates our life day by day. The author is using the sun as a representative of the creation.

Then, who can take care of the Sun? Who can dominate such a sun? It is God. He can only control and dominate over the sun. This verse shows God’s domination over His creation. God’s sovereignty is revealed in and through the creation.

Brothers and Sisters, Through His creation, God revealed not only who He is, but also who we are. There are two things.

First, we are created not by Accident, But by His purpose. We are created according to his holy will and purpose.

Then, what was the purpose of God with humanity? Let us read verse one again, it says, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”

We are created to declare the glory of God like the heavens declare His glory. As part of His creation, we praise His glory, and we enjoy His work.

Throughout our life, we reveal the knowledge of God. By walking with the Holy Spirit, we reflect the image of God.

Second, we are not independent, but rather, we always depend on God who is our ultimate source of everything. We depend on His domination. We depend on His Creation.

We already talked about the sun described in the passage. The sun gives us light and heat. Without light, we cannot see. Without heat, we cannot be warmed. In other words, we can say that we cannot survive without the Sun.

Not only us, but also plants and animals cannot live without the Sun. We depend on the Sun. The whole creatures depend on the Sun.

What else do we depend on? What do you think?

For example, there is water. Every day, we drink water for our health. We use water while cooking. I use water to cook ramen at home. Without water, we cannot survive. Moreover, we cannot survive without air.

Brothers and sisters, we all depend on the creation of God. We are depending on God.

Let me ask you a question, are we really enjoying God’s creation? are we really enjoying God’s creation?

Just before getting married with my wife, I traveled to Orland, Florida a few years ago with my two siblings: younger brother and sister because I wanted to have a sibling vacation before getting married.

I knew that it would not be easy to have a sibling vacation after getting married. We took a flight, and we visited Universal Studio. It was a huge theme park.

The park was well designed and built with the themes of famous movies such as Harry Potter. There were many attractions and rides. Moreover, there were a lot of people in the park.

All of them were enjoying the rides, shows, and food. They were enjoying Universal Studio which was created and built by mens.

In our lives, these days, we enjoy our own creations such as iPhone, computers, Walmart, Joongbu Market, and even cultures.

Then, are we really enjoying God’s creation? Moreover, are we enjoying being a part of His creation?

I want to say that we are in the Universal Studio of God. We are living in the wonderful work of God. Every day, we see His amazing glory and handiwork.

In the psalm, the author is enjoying God’s creation. The author is seeing the glory of God, his handiwork, and the knowledge of God through the creation.

Brothers and Sisters, let us enjoy His creative and amazing work. With His inerrant word, He created the universe without any mistakes. The Word of God is perfect and without mistakes.

Then, from verse seven, the author moves his topic from the creation to the word of God. The author moves from the general revelation to the special revelation, the Word of God.

After praising the creation, the author begins to praise the Word of God.

Brothers and Sisters, Through His word, God specially revealed who He is and who we are. Through His word, God specially revealed the difference between Himself and us.

Then, what difference is the author talking about in the psalm? According to the author, what can we learn about God and ourselves from the Word of God?

In the passage, the author shows Two Things.

First, God is perfect.

In the passage, the author is praising the perfection of God revealed in the Word.

Through the Word, God revealed that He is Perfect God, Blameless God, Pure God, and True God. In verse 7, the author says, “The law of the Lord is perfect.”

Then, how is the Word of God perfect? The Word of God is perfect to teach, reproof, correct, train, and equip His people for every good work. The perfect word leads his people to the right way and right direction.

Second, we are not perfect while God is perfect.

In the passage, the author comes to know his sinfulness from the Word of God. In verse 12 through 13, He says, “Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.”

Brothers and sisters, God’s Word reveals our sinfulness even the sins we didn’t know before. The Holy Word of God reveals who we are before the eyes of the Lord.

It reveals that we are not perfect while God is perfect. It reveals that we are guilty while God is blameless.

Our words are not perfect. Our words fail. We often make mistakes when talking to people or even our family members. My words sometimes make my wife happy or unhappy.

Every mother and wife may agree with this, they sometimes face hard times whenever they decide what to cook for their family. My wife usually asks me, “What should we eat tonight?” I like her question because she wants to discuss it with me.

If I say, “I will go get something to eat” or “Let’s go out and eat”, then it makes her happy because we don’t need to cook and wash dishes. BUT, if I say, “Let’s just eat what we have at home.” Not Good.

We make mistakes. Our words are Not inerrant. Our words are Not infallible. But, God doesn’t make mistakes. His words are inerrant. His words are infallible. His words lead us to the right way, right direction, and right person, Jesus.

Then, what was his response, what was the author’s response to such a wonderful Word of God? In verse 10, he says, “More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and droppings of the honeycomb.”

In the passage, the author is loving and desiring the Word of God more. He is desiring to live and walk by the word of Truth.

When we eat delicious candies such as Jolly Rancher, Starburst, or KitKat, we don't end up eating just one, we eat at least one more. Its sweetness makes us eat more, makes us want more.

Brothers and sisters, the more we know and understand the sweetness of the Word, the more we come to know the truth of the Word.

We desire the word of God more. We come to desire to live and walk with the Word of God.

So, let us desire to know the Word of God, and Let us seek to walk by the Word of God.

So far, we covered the Creation and the Word of God. And then, God ultimately revealed Himself through His beloved Son. Jesus was the ultimate revelation of God, the Climax of God’s revelation.

The Incarnated God lived among us, with us, and in us. John 1:14 says, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Then, what did God reveal in and through Jesus? What can we know about who God is and who we are?

With the Word, God revealed our sins. And, with His son, God revealed that we are saved from our sins, and Jesus has become our savior.

The author knew well that the Word of God is the Word of Life. At the end of the psalm, he says, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”

God, who created us, also saved us. God is revealed in and through His creation, scripture, and Jesus. And who we are also revealed. God is generally revealed in the creation.

God is specially revealed in the Word. Then, God is ultimately revealed in and through His beloved Son, Jesus Christ.

Through the Creation, we know the existence of God. Through the Word, we know our sinfulness. And Through Jesus, we know that God saved us from our sinfulness.

Brothers and sisters, without His revelation, We Could Not Be saved from our sins.

Therefore, His revelation is His love and grace to us.

Brothers and Sisters, we are created to declare the beauty of His creation. Our weakness is revealed in the Word.

And We are here to praise and honor Jesus who is our Rock and Redeemer. Therefore, let us praise His amazing revelation and grace with prayer. Let’s pray together.
